Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris)

humm.jpg

Unmistakable with their brilliant jeweled neck and precise zipping from source to source. In the Fall they make the incredible journey from Waldo to Central America. Not fond of seeds, they mainly feed on nectar and bugs they catch while en route. Ruby-Throated has the ability to stop in midair, pivot, and head in the direction of it's choice. Nests are usually 10-40 feet up in the air on skinny branches.
