Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis)

card-nuthatch.jpg

Crest-crowned, black-masked and red-plumped, Northern Cardinal is a winter (and summer) favorite. Notorious for arguing with it's own reflection, Northern Cardinal will spend many hours defending it's territory. They don't migrate, and mates can often be seen feeding each other seeds. Primarily ground foragers, but will occasionally perch at a feeder.
