Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii)

coopers hawk.jpg

Cooper's Hawk has taken it's vivid orange-striped chest and migrated to the suburbs and urban environments in recent decades. Skilled flapping and darting between trees helps Cooper's Hawk catch other birds and mice. It's not uncommon to see them waiting near bird feeders for a meal. Males are the nest builders and will bow to the female before proceeding.
